IBM and HP made announcements last month that they would acquire security assessment software firms, echoing comments that the software security market featuring companies such as Ounce Labs would consolidate. These acquisitions are major acknowledgements that firewalls, access control lists and other measures are not enough to fight web application vulnerabilities. But the harder challenge is to convince developers that software security assurance is also their responsibility.
