Software developers to get a standardized security test

Summary
The Secure Programming Council unveiled a standard to test software developers' knowledge of secure programming in Java/J2EE, the first of six standards initiatives. The aim is to ensure that in-house or outsourced developers have a base level of knowledge about applications’ secure programming. According to Council member and Ounce Labs Chief Scientist Ryan Berg, the skill testing is designed to examine code writers’ understanding about encryption, as well as the differences between various forms of encryption. In addition to Ounce Labs, more than 40 companies, government agencies, and security firms have participated in establishing the standards.
